Kazan to Host Russia–ASEAN Summit on 17–19 June 2026

In accordance with Decree No. 268 of the President of the Russian Federation dated 21 April 2026 - http://publication.pravo.gov.ru/document/0001202604210021, Kazan will be the host city for the 5th Russia–ASEAN Summit. An Organizing Committee will be established to oversee the preparations for and holding of the Summit. Aide to the President of the Russian Federation Yury Ushakov has been appointed Chair of the Organizing Committee. The remaining members of the Committee will be announced in due course.

The meeting will be timed to coincide with the 35th anniversary of the establishment of relations between Russia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which is being celebrated this year. It will be attended by heads of state and government, as well as representatives of relevant ministries and agencies from ASEAN countries, regional associations, and organizations. They will provide an update on the long-standing cooperative ties, discuss ways to expand interaction in the political, economic, and humanitarian spheres, and exchange views on the situation in the Asia-Pacific region.

“The Russia–ASEAN dialogue partnership extends over more than 35 years and has now reached the stage where it is forming a new, pragmatic agenda. The Russia–ASEAN Summit, which will take place in Kazan on 17–19 June this year, is designed to strengthen this comprehensive cooperation, define new contours of interaction – both bilateral and multilateral – and ensure deeper economic interconnectedness and the formulation of a joint response to regional security challenges in the context of a multipolar architecture of international relations. The events will include a comprehensive analysis of the entire spectrum of Russia–ASEAN cooperation and the creation of a roadmap for joint work in politics, security, economics, science, technology, culture, humanitarian affairs, and other areas. The goal is to ensure that strategic development between the countries involved continues to develop based on the fundamental principles of mutual respect, the balanced consideration of each other’s interests, and a focus on the real benefits for the peoples of our countries,” explained Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Anton Kobyakov.

The Summit is expected to include the signing of intergovernmental and interdepartmental trade, economic, investment, scientific, technical, and cultural and humanitarian agreements.

The 4th Russia–ASEAN Summit was held in 2021 via videoconference and was marked by the adoption of the Comprehensive Plan of Action to Implement the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the Russian Federation Strategic Partnership (2021–2025), joint statements on building a peaceful, stable, and sustainable region, and on cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking.
